Quebec rises to defend its schools and hospitals

In the fall of 2023, hundreds of thousands of education, health care, social service, and public sector workers went on strike together across Quebec. While demanding wage increases to keep up with soaring inflation, they denounced reforms that, under the guise of “efficiency,” hand control of the public system to private-sector managers and turn government budgets into business opportunities.
