Before being elected to parliament and unseating Pierre Poilievre, Fanjoy had spent many years without employment, reportedly to focus on parenting and volunteer work.
Fanjoy was director of sales and marketing at Deloitte Canada from 1999 to 2003. From 1993 to 1998, he was a senior product manager at Ceridian Canada (now Dayforce), a payroll management company. From 1987 to 1991, he was a branch manager at Comcheq, another payroll management company.
Fanjoy’s uncle, Harold Fanjoy, was a member of the New Brunswick assembly in the 1970s.
