Immediately before entering politics, Guay was an executive at IBM Canada for 17 years. He was president of the company during its involvement in the Phoenix federal pay system scandal. Before becoming an executive at IBM, he worked in its marketing and sales department for a further 11 years.
Guay founded and was the president and CEO of the consulting firm MTI Services from 2005 to 2018. He has held senior and executive positions at a number of other companies, including Gildan Activewear, a clothing manufacturer notorious for its sweatshops and repression of labour organizing.
