Before entering politics, Solomon was from 2022 to 2025 a publisher at GZERO Media, a subsidiary of political risk analysis firm Eurasia Group. From 2015 to 2023, he hosted several CTV News shows, including Power Play, Question Period, and The Evan Solomon Show.
From 1994 to 2015, Solomon was a host at CBC, including on CBC News: Sunday, CBC News: Sunday Night, and the politics shows Power & Politics and The House. He was fired from CBC after the Toronto Star reported that he allegedly took secret commissions for brokering sales of art owned by his friend Bruce Bailey to people he was connected to through his position at the CBC.
In 1992, Solomon co-founded the magazine Shift with venture capitalist Andrew Heintzman. He left the magazine in 1999 to promote his novel, Crossing the Distance.
