Before his election to parliament, Genuis was vice president at Abingdon Research, a political polling company, for three years. From 2011 to 2012, he was the executive director of Responsible Electricity Transmission for Albertans (RETA), a lobby group that advocates for the undergrounding of high-voltage power lines.
Genuis holds significant investment assets. His wife, Rebecca, owns at least one rental property.
