Before being elected to parliament, Schmale was chief of staff to Conservative MP Barry Devolin from 2004 to 2015. He was previously employed by CHUM Radio Lindsay as a news anchor and later news director. He hosts the Conservative Party podcast The Blueprint.
Schmale is the sole owner of three rental properties in Lindsay, Ontario, and joint owner of another.
