Before becoming an MP, Simard was a political science instructor at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi from 2005 to 2019. From 2011 to 2015, he was also a press agent to Bloc Québécois MP Claude Patry. From 2014 to 2018, Simard was a columnist for the HuffPost Québec.
Simard’s spouse is the co-owner of a rental property in Jonquière, Quebec.
