Before entering politics, Hajdu was from 2012 to 2015 the executive director of Shelter House, the largest homeless shelter in Thunder Bay. From 2003 to 2012, she was the drug strategy coordinator for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
From 2008 to 2010, Hajdu taught sociology at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. She has previously also worked in graphic design, marketing, and desktop publishing.
Hajdu owns at least one rental property.
