Before entering politics, Turnbull owned and was president of the management consulting firm Eco-Ethonomics Inc., which he founded in 2008. He was a lecturer at Durham College in Oshawa from 2015 to 2019 and at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) from 2014 to 2017.
