Until her election, Cobena worked in commercial and corporate banking for TD for eight years and HSBC for three years. In 2008 she founded T.W. Imports, an aftermarket importing/exporting firm based in Toronto.
Cobena’s husband, Matthijs Van Gaalen, is a partner at Gowling, the largest law firm in Canada.
